Building By Faith Without a Roadmap
- Candice Madrid
- Create by Faith, For Creatives, Brands
Have you ever sat down to build the thing God put on your heart and thought, "Wait. What am I even doing?"
One minute you're full of fire. "Yes, Lord, I'll build it. I'll launch the brand. I'll write the book. I'll start the ministry." The next minute you're staring at a blank screen, a closed laptop, or a half finished idea and wondering if you've completely lost the plot.
I've been there. I'm still there some days, if I'm being honest with you. And if you've ever felt that, I want you to hear this loud: you are not failing. That tension you feel is what building by faith actually feels like.
I've been in the creative industry since 2008. I've built with over 140 brands. National magazines, global companies, the kind of work that looked, on paper, like the dream. And then in 2024, the Lord pulled me out of the corporate world and placed me into the kingdom industry. I went from building for shareholders to building for the King. And it has been one of the most beautiful, terrifying, holy seasons of my life.
That season is the reason R16 Creatives exists. And it's also the reason for the name.
Why Romans 16?
Romans 16 is the chapter most people skip.
It's the closing chapter of Paul's letter to the Romans, and on the surface it reads like a list of names. Greetings. Shoutouts. "Say hi to Phoebe. Tell Priscilla and Aquila I love them. Don't forget Junia."
But sit with it for a minute, and Romans 16 becomes one of the most stunning chapters in the whole Bible.
Because what Paul is actually doing is naming the builders. The men and women who were quietly, faithfully constructing the early church with their bare hands and a borrowed faith.
Phoebe. Priscilla. Junia. Mary. Names you've heard in passing, names you've never heard at all. Apostles. Deacons. Hosts of house churches. Women and men who were doing the impossible without a playbook.
There were no online courses. No "build your ministry in 90 days" frameworks. No industry guru selling them a $10K mastermind. They didn't even have the New Testament yet. They were the New Testament being written in real time.
All they had was the teaching of Jesus, the witness of the Spirit, and each other.
And they built it anyway.
You Were Never Meant To Build Alone
Here's the lie a lot of us are believing right now: "I'm the only one figuring this out."
Maybe you grew up in a small town with no creative roadmap. Maybe you're the first in your family to start a business, write a book, launch a brand. Maybe you scroll Instagram and feel like everyone else got the manual and you got nothing.
I want to gently push back on that. Because Romans 16 makes one thing crystal clear: the early church builders did it together. They had community. They had fellowship. They had the kind of connection where Paul could write down forty names and say "these people built it with me."
The loneliness you feel is not a sign you're called to do this alone. It's an invitation to find your people.
That's literally why R16 Creatives exists. So you don't have to be one of those forty names trying to figure it out solo.
Three Scriptures Every Faith Driven Builder Needs
If you're building something only God can see right now, tape these three to your desk.
Proverbs 3:5,6: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your path straight."
The hard part is not the trusting. It's the not leaning on your own understanding. I'm a fixer. I'm the one people call when something breaks. So letting go of the figuring out is some of the hardest spiritual work I've ever done. I have literally yelled at myself in my car: "It is none of my business how this works out." Because it is not. The path straightening is His job. The walking is mine.
Hebrews 11:1: "Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see."
Every builder in Romans 16 operated from this place. They could not see what the Church would become. They built on what they believed, not on what they could prove. Two thousand years later, we are the proof.
1 Corinthians 3:10: "By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it."
You may be laying a foundation right now for someone else who will build on it. Maybe your children. Maybe a movement. Maybe a kingdom enterprise that funds the gospel for generations. That is not small work. That is kingdom work.
Come Like Children
There's one last piece I want to share with you, because it changed everything for me.
Jesus said "come to me like children." I always pictured that as something whimsical. Twirling around in joy. And He wants that, too. But the deeper revelation hit me hard. Think of a two year old in a loving home.
That two year old is not lying awake at night worried about whether mom can afford formula or whether dad got enough hours this week. They run around the house living their best little life because they know they're taken care of.
That's how the Father wants us to come to Him. Not striving. Not performing. Not trying to figure out the next forty steps before we take the first one. Just trusting that the One who feeds the birds is going to take care of you, too.
"Seek first the kingdom of God, and all these things will be added unto you." (Matthew 6:33)
Your Invitation: You Don't Have To Build Alone Anymore
Here's what I know: you were called to build something. And you were never called to build it alone.
If you're tired of guessing, tired of feeling like the algorithm only shows you people with a million followers and a $10K course, tired of wondering if anyone else is out here just trying to figure it out by faith, I built a place for you.
It's called the Creative Foundation Community, and it lives inside R16 Creatives. It is the room I wish I had when I started. It's where faith driven creatives, kingdom entrepreneurs, and first generation builders come to share what we're learning, build together, and remind each other we are not doing this alone.
We are forever students. We don't pretend to have a manual, because we don't need one. We have Him, and we have each other. That's how Phoebe and Priscilla and Junia did it. That's how we're doing it now.
🤍 Your seat is waiting. Come build with us.

You don't have to have it all figured out before you move. You move, and the Lord meets you there.
I'll see you on the inside. 🤍
